Thames Water fined more than £3m: company apologises after sentencing for pollution incident in West Sussex rivers

Thames Water has apologised for a pollution incident near Gatwick Airport in 2017 after receiving a £3,334,000 fine at Lewes Crown Court today (Tuesday, July 4).

The Environment Agency (EA) announced today that the utility company had been fined after millions of litres of raw sewage flooded two rivers near Gatwick six years ago.

The EA said investigators found almost 1,400 dead fish in Gatwick Stream and the River Mole after the incident on October 11, 2017.
